Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for inspecting perpendicular magnetic recording head, which are capable of surely detecting a pole erasure phenomenon.
SOLUTION: Writing is carried out in one track on a perpendicular magnetic recording medium by a perpendicular magnetic recording head to be inspected, overwriting is carried out in a fixed partial area of the written track by the perpendicular magnetic recording head, reading is carried out from the track immediately after the overwriting, overwriting and reading immediately after are repeated by a plurality of times in this partial area, and the pole erasure phenomenon of the perpendicular magnetic recording head is detected from a reproducing output obtained by the plurality of times of reading.
