To facilitate calculating operation for painting area by specifying the range of a painted part and calculating the painting area, or specifying the ranges of the whole image and an unpainted part respectively and calculating the painting area from the difference.
An area calculation system is actuated to reads in an image converted into a file and display it on a display unit, and one line of this image is traced to input the actual dimension value corresponding to the line. In the image, the unpainted part is selected and its range is specified. For example, when the range of a rectangular window of a 2nd floor is specified, the actual dimensions 600 and 800 are calculated on the basis of a scale change rate by tracing the longitudinal and lateral sides, and those longitudinal and lateral dimensions are multiplied by each other to calculate the actual area. Then the range of the whole image is specified and the area is calculated. The actual dimensions 3000 and 4000 are automatically calculated by tracing the longitudinal and lateral sides of the image, the actual area of the range-specified part is calculated, and the area of the whole image is held positively. The area of the unpainted part is subtracted from the area of the whole image to calculate the actual area of the painted part.
