PURPOSE: To attain ingot making and soaking in vertically-linked containers with good manipulation and safety by vertically linking a mold and heat insulating room for an ingot, by rapidly cooling the ingot poured into the mold, and then by lowering the ingot into the lower heat insulating container at a stage where the ingot is armored.
CONSTITUTION: After filler 7 is poured into concave hole 6 of heat insulating container 4, molten metal 12 is injected into mold hole 2 of mold 1 and powder flux 13 is supplied. After molten metal 12 is armored, switching unit 9 beneath heat insulating container 4 is opened to flow fillter 7 out of the hole at a stage where ingot (molten metal) 12 has enough content for soaking at its own needed temperature. Ingot 12 lowers inside of mold 1 by its own weight and moves into concave hole 6 of heat insulating container 4. After ingot 12 is contained, mold 1 is separated from container 4, which is provided with cover 13 to close switching unit 9 for a heat insulation state. Consequently, the ingot has a difference in temperature between its center part and surface part and hardening and soaking are both in progress, so that the quality of the ingot will improve.
