Title:
METHOD AND DEVICE FOR MANUFACTURING PACKING BOXES
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS36845
Kind Code:
B1
Abstract:
817,183. Making boxes; angular bending. ALIUM S. A. Aug. 22, 1956 [June 25, 1956], No. 25626/56. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). [Also in Group XVII] A box is formed by folding a blank of thin sheet metal about a mandrel forcing it through a die, the blank being clamped against the mandrel by a member moving with it and operating elements to press all the side forming parts of the blank against the mandrel after it has passed through the die. The mandrel comprises a former 4 having mounted on it an ejector 7 and being spring connected to an operating rod 8. The die consists of a plate 2, which may have blank locating suction openings 22, supported by a frame 1. The clamping member 5 is urged upwardly by a spring 11a and retained by a stop 12. Side pressing plates 13 are pivoted on the frame 1 and carry rollers 18 engaged by the member 5 and portions 20 on its shaft 11. As the mandrel descends the blank 21 is partially folded in its passage through the plate 2, and towards the end of the stroke is engaged by the plates 13 and forced against the mandrel sides. The partially formed corner gussets are pressed by elements 24 moving inwards radially. After the mandrel has ceased to move, continued downward movement of the rod 8 causes cheeks 25 to fold over margins f to lie flat against the box sides and enclose part of the corner gussets. As the mandrel withdraws, the member 5 rises with it until checked by its stop 12. Further movement of the mandrel allows the ejector 7 to release the box.
