To automate the measurement of lateral movement allowances for a slab track by using an image processor for recognizing the center of a tie plate bolt.
In the slab track 1 where a rail 4 is fixed onto a slab plate 2 via a tie plate 3, the image processor 14 on a measurement truck 15 mounted on the rail 4 is used for measuring a distance X from a tie plate shoulder 7 to the center of the tie plate bolt 5 and finding differences between the distance X and each of prefigured distances Y, Z from the tie plate shoulder 7 to the outer and inner ends of a hole 6 of the tie plate bolt, thereby finding the lateral movement allowances for the rail in the inward and outward directions of a track section. Thus, the measurement of the lateral movement allowances is automated, resulting in highly precise measurement.
