To provide a paging system capable of enhancing the efficiency of a band width and total transmission power by controlling the start timing of the transmission burst of plural frequency channels provided with frames provided with the transmission burst of variable duration and the frame format of the same cycle.

A receiver can be selectively tuned to either one of a bulletin board channel frequency or a specified one of a set of traffic channel frequencies. A bulletin board channel is continuously transmitted at a fixed frequency. A bulletin board frame BBF is provided with an allocation table AT following a header BBH and a bulletin board identifier BBID. The allocation table AT is provided with a set of entries (input items) 1, 2, 3, 4... to be successively transmitted and they are related to respective traffic channels T1, T2, T3, T4.... The frames of the respective traffic channels are transmitted as the bursts provided with a start time difference with each other.
