PURPOSE: To provide a method and device for surface polishing a flat metal wire wherein a set up area, cost of equipment and a cost of power can be markedly reduced.

CONSTITUTION: In a surface polishing method for a flat metal wire continuously polishing the flat metal wire W by winding it between rollers 1, 1 moved to run and by bringing polishing rollers 2, 2 into contact with the flat metal wire W from both the sidewards between the rollers, by providing a 90° twist in the flat metal in any one of a forward and return path side, flat and side surfaces of the flat metal wire W are polished.
