PURPOSE: To improve gasification efficiency by burning fuel with a making burner other than a pilot burner provided in a reaction furnace in the making stage.
CONSTITUTION: When city gas is produced by a low-pressure cyclic system, the production reaction is stopped when a catalyst bed 1 is cooled below a specified temp. since the reforming of the raw material such as petroleum hydrocarbons is an endothermic reaction, air and fuel are introduced and burned to heat the catalyst bed 2, and then the raw material and steam are introduced to continue the production reaction. In the making stage, O2 and fuel are supplied to the making burner 4 with the combustion quantity at 5-40% of that of a heating burner and set close to the pilot burner 3 and burned, and all the waste gas is mixed with the produced gas in the furnace. As a result, since the gas is lower in calories than the ordinary produced gas, a large amt. of carburetting raw material can be introduced to reduce dilution air, and hence the O2 concn. is lowered.
