To provide a beam selection method and device for mobile subscriber wireless phone system having a multi-beam antenna array.
The multi-beam antenna array disclosed in this inventions acts like an omnidirectional antenna at all times when the signal to noise ratio(SNR) performance is sufficient and eliminates an individual branch as required by using the SNR performance for a basic function. A multi-mode method is employed for selection of a proper antenna in the multi-beam antenna array. A prescribed mode is established by using the SNR of a received signal as a base. When the SNR of the received signal satisfies a predetermined criterion in general, the mobile subscriber wireless phone system impartially synthesizes received signals from respective individual narrow beam antenna braches to activate the multi-beam antenna array in an omnidirectional way. When the SNR of the received signal does not satisfy the predetermined criterion, the mobile subscriber wireless phone system activates the multi-beam antenna array in a flex beam type where branches indicating deteriorated SNR performance are eliminated. A branch sequence table describes branches of the multi-beam antenna array in the order of the SNR performance.
