Title:
METHOD AND DEVICE FOR REMOVING INTERMEDIATE COVERING OF OPTICAL FIBER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH01196004
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE:To expose optical fibers without breaking and damaging the fibers by dropping or injecting a heated sulfuric acid to a covering material to melt the covering material and rinsing the molten part. CONSTITUTION:The chemically ion-bonded and covalent-bonded covering material (high-polymer material) 3 of the optical fibers 2 is decomposed, bonded and melted by the hot sulfuric acid. Water is then injected to the molten part by which the molten covering material 3 is forcibly washed away. The optical fibers 2 on which the covering material 3 does not remain and stick are thereby exposed without being broken and damaged. The sulfuric acid of only the amt. required to be injected or dropped is heated just prior to the injection or dropping to assure the safety of the device. A sulfuric acid tank 9 and waste covering material liquid discharge tank are made into an attachable/detachable cassette type to prevent the chance of an operator to come into direct contact with the sulfuric acid.
