In this method for sealing the clearance 4 between a through guide passage 2 provided on a structural element 1 and an object 3 inserted to the through guide passage 2 by arranging at least one sealing element 6 within the clearance 4, the elastic sealing element 6 is compressed, positioned between the structural element 1 and the object 3 in the compressed state, and then converted to the non-compressed state. The sealing element 6 is formed as the whole into a band or ring-shape having, for example, four lip parts 8. The sealing element 6 is crushed and compressed by covering the circumference of the sealing element 6 with a sheath 7, and the sheath 1 is broken, for example, partially cut by a cutter 9, whereby the sealing element 6 opens the sheath 7 by the restoring force and seals the clearance 4.
