To provide a method and device for sensing pressure in a severe environment.

In one embodiment, a sensor 40 on a microwave radar basis is provided. The sensor is connected to a signal processing unit 50. The signal processing unit includes at least one among a processor constructed to find a sensor value and a memory including prestored values representing possible sensor values. To the respective prestored values, respective pressures are allocated. This method includes a step of operating the signal processing unit for sampling a signal generated by the sensor, a step of operating the signal processing unit for correlating characteristics of the sampling signal with the prestored value having the allocated pressure, and a step of operating the signal unit for generating a signal representing the allocated pressure of the prestored value correlated with the sampling signal.
