To provide a method and an apparatus for efficiently separating and collecting a lining layer and a base fabric layer with little blending of loop pile yarn and fiber lint of a carpet from the carpet.

In recycling the carpet 1 having three layers including a carpet layer 10 made of loop pile yarn 11, the base fabric layer 12 and the lining layer 13, the carpet 1 is extended in the direction of stitches of the loop pile yarn, and part of the lining layer 13 and the base fabric layer 12 is fractured. At the same time, the loop pile yarn constituting the carpet layer 10 is separated from the base fabric layer 12 while extended in such a way as to eliminate the loop, and is released from the lining layer 13. In this way, the loop pile yarn layer 11 including the loop pile yarn constituting the carpet layer 10, the basic fabric layer 12 and the lining layer 13 are independently separated. The method of separating and collecting the component materials of the tufted carpet having the loop pile yarn is characterized by slit parts 101 previously formed in the lining layer 13.
