Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for setting the reference position of the rolls of a universal mill for accurately setting the reference position of each roll.
SOLUTION: After, at first, setting the position in the height direction and position in the axial direction of a lower horizontal roll 1, for example, in the reference positions and setting an upper horizontal roll 2 in a relieved position in the height direction, by screwing down the lower horizontal roll with vertical rolls 3, 4 so that the right and left rolling reaction force loads are equal, the screw-down location a of the vertical rolls is determined. Next, after setting the lower horizontal roll in a relieved position in the height direction and setting the upper horizontal roll in the reference position in the height direction, by screwing down the upper horizontal roll with the vertical rolls so that the right and left rolling reaction force loads are equal, the screw-down location b of the vertical rolls is determined and the reference position in the axial direction of the upper horizontal roll is set in accordance with the difference between the screw-down locations a, b of the vertical rolls.
