To provide a method for cutting a coil width by which the end face of a metal coil can be accurately and highly precisely cut without the occurrence of phenomena such as "burrs", "bronzing", and "sags" when the width of the end face of the metal coil is shaped, and a device therefor.
The method is used for cutting the end face of the metal coil 1, in which a metallic lengthy plate is wound in a coil shape, as it is in a coiled state. The method has the following characteristics. A cutting means 3 is rotated while rotating the metal coil. Alternately, the cutting means 3 is revolved on the end face of the metal coil while rotating the cutting means in a state that the metal coil is not rotated and stopped. The moving speed of the cutting means in the radial direction of the metal coil is controlled from the outer periphery of the metal coil to the inner peripheral direction or its reverse direction per one rotation of the metal coil or per one rotation of the revolution of the cutting means. The end face of the metal coil is cut while controlling the moving speed in such a manner.
