Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide an audio signal recording and reproducing device in which low frequency region signal components are reproduced in a conventional reproducing device and the signals in a high frequency region are also reprocessed.
CONSTITUTION: Digital/audio signals are divided into high and low frequency region signal components by a band dividing filter 1. The lower frequency region components are straightly PCM processed in order to maintain the compatibility with respect to a conventional reproducing. The high frequency region components are high efficiency coding processed via a requantizing circuit 5 and an entropy coding circuit 6. A comparison circuit 8 compares whether the straightly PCM signals and high efficiency coding processed signals are included in a prescribed bit length or not and if not, requantization is conducted in the circuit 5 in which the bit length is shortened. A bit redistributing circuit 9 performs redistribution of the straight PCM bit data and the high efficient coding processing bit data and the wave data are recorded on a CD. The subcode data of the circuit 6 and the requantization bit number of the circuit 5 are recorded on the CD.
