Abstract:
PURPOSE: To effectively spread a tow to any width by making the tow proceed zig-zag via rods which are plurally arranged on a single plane along the transferring direction of the tow and, at the same time, projecting acoustic energy by a gas vibration exciter on the tow.
CONSTITUTION: The tow 12 is drawn out of a spool 11 through a guide 13 via a first pair of nip rolls 14 and is continuously transferred through a spreading device 16 so that a specified tension level of the nip rolls 14 is maintained between the nip rolls and a second pair of nip rolls 18. The tow 15 which is guided into a housing 16g of the spreading device 16 is transferred zig-zag via a polished surface and along plural rods 16d, 16e, 16f having a circular cross-section on a single plane along the transferring direction. At the same time, the tow 15 is spread by exciting gaseous medium in the housing 16g with the acoustic energy from a speaker 16a which is controlled to the sound volume level 80 to 130 dB by a frequency generator 16c and a power amplifier 16b. The spread tow 17 is wound on a winding drum 19 through a guide 20 and the nip roll 18.
