Abstract:

PURPOSE: To decarburize the metallic powder contg. hard to oxidize elements obtd. by an oil atomizing method continuously and efficiently by decarburizing said metallic powder on a moving bed then cooling said powder in a nonoxidative atmosphere.

CONSTITUTION: The metallic powder consisting essentially of ≥1 kind among Ni, Mo, Cu, Co, Fe, P, W, etc. obtd. by an oil atomizing method is supplied onto an endless moving bed 1 from a hopper 2. The metallic powder is first heated to 550W1,200°C in a decarburizing chamber 3 into which a decarburizing gas is supplied, by which the powder is decarburized. The powder is next fed into a cooling chamber 4 into which a nonoxidative gas is supplied, whereby the powder is cooled. A system 5 for supplying the decarburizing gas to the chamber 3 is a circulation system consisting of a dust collector 6 and a controller for gaseous components. Said system uses the decarburizing gas cyclically while removing the components harmful for the decarburization reaction. By the above-mentioned method, the metallic powder for powder metallurgy consisting essentially of hard to oxidize elements is decarburized efficiently.
