To provide a method and a device for stably winding a steel strip, which securely restrain the touch of the front end and rear end of the steel strip with a coiler gate apron due to the centrifugal whirling of the front end and rear end of the steel strip at a coiler gate which sorts the steel strip to each coiler when the steel strip is wound on one of a plurality of coilers, so that the winding of the steel strip and the changeover of the coiler are performed stably.
When the coiler gate is changed over at the time of winding the steel strips by a plurality of coilers, a fluid comprising a gas or a liquid is jetted to the front end and rear end of the steel strip passing through the coiler changeover portion. This restrains the front end and rear end of the steel strip from centrifugally whirling at the coiler gate which sorts the steel strip when the coiler on which the steel strip is to be wound is changed over, so that the front end and rear end of the steel strip are prevented from touching the coiler gate apron, whereby the changeover of the coiler and the winding of the steel strip are performed securely and stably.
