Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of diagnosing the degree of danger of cracking using a piezoelectric material which diagnoses the degree of danger in possible failure thereof by determining stress at the tip of the cracking for the detection of the degree of fatigue and an apparatus therefor.
SOLUTION: A film 11 with piezoelectric materials 1A and 1B disposed therein is arranged near the tip 10 of cracking 9 generated in a machine, a structure or a construction and a potential difference is measured between the surface and the rear of each of the piezoelectric materials 1A and 1B to determine the total of the sums (σx+δy) of stresses σx and σy in two orthogonal directions near the tip part of the cracking 9 over the entire area on which the piezoelectric materials 1A and 1B are bonded thereby diagnosing the rate and direction of growth in the cracking 9 and the degree of danger in possible destruction.
