Abstract:
A process for treating wastewater comprising a. contacting wastewater in a stream in a biological contactor apparatus which has a multiplicity of surfaces therein alternately immersed in the liquid and the gas above the liquid, for a period of at least 1/2 hour; b. adding to the stream an adsorbent capable of adsorbing impurities from the liquid; and c. removing accumulated suspended solids from the contactor apparatus at a rate equivalent to the rate at which solids accumulate within the contactor.
