This method for distillation is characterized by distilling out a distillate containing an unreacted aromatic monohydroxy compound from a reaction solution obtained in a process for synthesizing a carbonic acid diester from the aromatic monohydroxy compound and a carbonyl compound as raw materials, introducing the distillate into a heat exchanger 16a operated at a temperature equal to or lower than the melting point of the aromatic monohydroxy compound, and further recycling a part of a concentrated solution L to the upstream side of the heat exchanger 16a.
