To provide an electrophoretic display device that is less apt to form a residual image, and to provide a method of driving the electrophoretic display device.
The electrophoresis display device can separate ions collected around charged particles by a pulsed voltage of a prescribed frequency from the charged particles, since the pulsed voltage is applied on at least one of a pixel electrode 11 and a common electrode 21 at a prescribed frequency, when images displayed on a display part are written. Thus, the electrophoresis display device can avoid blunting of the movement of the charged particles and can suppress remaining images from being formed on the display part, when a writing voltage for writing display images between the pixel electrode 11 and the common electrode 21 is applied, after the pulsed voltage is applied.
