To prevent an unstable operation due to an influence or an interference between optical elements in a light adjusting apparatus having a plurality of optical elements.
The light adjusting apparatus comprises a substrate having an aperture, a plurality of incident light adjusting means which are displaced on the substrate, and a plurality of driving means which exert on the incident light adjusting means an aperture-displacement driving force which displaces the incident light adjusting means to an aperture position, and a retracting-displacement driving force which displaces the incident light adjusting means to a retracted position other than the aperture position. The incident light adjusting means are mutually displaced to the aperture position and the retracted position by the driving means, and the incident light that passes through the aperture is adjusted. In a driving method of the light adjusting device, the displacement of each incident light adjusting means to the aperture position is exclusive for the other incident light adjusting means. The step of displacing the incident light adjusting means includes a step of displacing a first incident light adjusting means disposed at the aperture position to the retracted position, and a step of displacing a second incident light adjusting means disposed at the retracted position to the aperture position after completion of the former step.
