To provide a method and apparatus for dry coal preparation which can select a raw coal having a broad particle diameter range, can remove impurities with high efficiency and, in particular, can highly efficiently remove sulfides included in a raw coal.
This dry coal preparation method is the one wherein a dryer 14a, a crusher 16, and a device 17 for removing a magnetic material serve respectively to dry and crush a raw coal 13 contg. a carbonaceous material 13a and an impurity 13b as a mixture, and remove a magnetic material. The raw coal is classified by means of a first sieve 11 to collect a raw coal fraction having a coal size of 5 to 2.5mm. The classified raw coal fraction is then separated by means of an ultrasonic selector 18 into a carbonaceous material and an impurity by taking advantage of a difference in movement, between these materials, based on a difference in specific gravity between these materials. A raw material fraction having a particle diameter of 2.5 to 1mm is selected by classification using a second sieve 12. The classified raw coal is separated by means of an electromagnetic induction selector 19 into a carbonaceous material and an impurity by taking advantage of electromagnetic force. A raw material fraction having a particle diameter of less than 1mm is separated by means of an electrostatic selector 20 into a carbonaceous material and an impurity by taking advantage of coulombic force.
