Abstract:

To provide a Geranium thunbergii composition including geraniin that is an active ingredient in Geranium thunbergii by extracting the geraniin without decomposition, and to create a functional food, food material, food additive, health food, medical product, quasi drug, cosmetic or the like using the functionality and biological activity of the Geranium thunbergii composition.

The Geranium thunbergii composition including a high content of geraniin is produced by extracting geraniin from Geranium thunbergii with hot water to which an acid such as citric acid is added or the like, and performing purification thereon for removing impurities by use of at least one or more methods of supercritical extraction, membrane treatment, dialytic membrane treatment, recrystallization, centrifugal separation, synthetic adsorbent treatment, ion-exchange resin treatment and the like. Further, the Geranium thunbergii composition excellnet in antioxidant effect, melanin generation inhibiting effect, specific enzyme inhibiting effect, SOD activity-like effect and the like is widely used for a functional food, food material, food additive, health food, medical product, quasi drug, cosmetic or the like.
