Abstract:

To provide a method of enclosing underground contaminants by cutoff walls.

Movements of ground water where a contaminant 1 is eluted are slowed by installing cutoff walls 3 which surround the contaminant 1 under the ground and do not reach an impermeable layer 2 and by slowing the flow velocity of the underground water in an inside 4. The flow velocity of the underground water at a specific place of the inside 4 is adjusted by changing either/both of an installing width B for cutoff walls 3 which are perpendicular to the flow of the underground water or/and an installing depth H. Since the flow velocity of the underground water at the specific place of the inside 4 is constant when the ratio of the installing width B to the installing depth H is constant, a plan depending on a nomogram using the formula can be made.
