Abstract:
PURPOSE: To compress a motion video signal in real time by low-price hardware while maintaining allowable picture quality. CONSTITUTION: At least one pixel is selected for encoding and at least one difference value between the selected pixel and at least one corresponding preceding pixel is determined to encode a digital video image in real time. Then an index value corresponding to a position on a table of the difference value is calculated. When the index value is equal to a 1st value, a run length counter increases by a 2nd value and this process is repeated until the index value becomes equal to the 1st value. The run length counter value is encoded. When the index value is not equal to the 1st value, the index value is encoded. The difference value table selects images having the least error among the plural images formed for the images of a learning set.
