Abstract:
PURPOSE: To avoid the limitation by a high-speed electronic circuit by eliminat ing the need of the electronic circuit of a switching node operating at the bit rate of a high-speed link. CONSTITUTION: A part of a packet signal comprising a header section having a low-speed rate and a data section having a high-speed rate is transmitted to a low-speed receiver 34 through an optical coupler 32 and the most of the packet signal is transmitted to an optical switch 40 through a delaying section 36. The low-speed receiver 34 guides the signal to a low-speed electronic control 38 by reading the packet header so as to control the destination of an optical signal from the delaying section 36. Therefore, a switching node is not required to process the data section of the packet, but the header section only. In addition, the high-speed data section of the packet merely passes through the switching node.
