PURPOSE: To remove scales and to reduce the number of times of weld zone cutting and the number of times of rewelding by grinding the abutting surface of a metallic strip welding groove and both upper and lower strip surfaces by vertical grinders and a couple of upper and lower horizontal grinders, respectively.
CONSTITUTION: A groove face grinding unit carriage 11 to grind the abutting surface is arranged on rails 10 and 10 to reciprocate in the line width direction via a gear 5 by a motor 7 between a couple of portal frames 14a and 14b set up extending over a line. A holder 3 of the lower part of a link 6 suspended on a suspending device 12 and the couple of vertical grinders 2a and 2b fitted to both ends of a grinder axis on right and left thereof are provided on the groove face grinding unit carriage 11. The vertical grinders are rotated by driving a motor 4 and energized to the abutting surface of the groove of the metallic strips 13a and 13b and rotated. A groove face grinding carriage 22 to reciprocate in the line width direction is arranged on the floor surface in the line and either of the abutting surface of the groove part or the upper and lower strip surfaces is ground.
