PURPOSE: To conduct stable and precise intermittent driving by a method wherein the start-up time required till the target number of rotations is reached and the braking time required till the stop of the rotation of a motor are measured and compared with target values and the motor current at the time of start-up and at the time of braking is so changed that the current may come closer to the target value.

CONSTITUTION: In order to feed a tape 13 intermittently, a capstan controlling section (CC) 23 and a motor driving circuit 24 control a capstan motor so that the capstan motor may repeat start-up, constant speed operation, and braking condition. The CC 23 includes a start-up time measuring means that measures the start up time from starting up of the motor to reaching of the target number of rotations and a braking time measuring means that measures the braking time from the application of braking by supplying inverse current to the motor to the stop of the rotation of the motor. The CC 23 compares the measured values of the start-up time and the braking time with the preliminarily determined values and changes the motor current at the time of the start-up and at the time of braking so that the measured values may come closer to the target values.
