To provide a method and equipment for manufacturing a metal matrix composite material by which fine second-phase particles can be efficiently dispersed into molten matrix metal.
In the method for manufacturing the metal matrix composite material where the second-phase particles are dispersed in the metal matrix, the second-phase particles are supplied into the molten matrix metal through the hollow part of an ultrasonic vibrator of a hollow cylindrical shape while immersing the vibrator in the molten metal and applying ultrasonic vibrations. The system for carrying out this method has a vessel for housing the molten matrix metal, an ultrasonic generator, and the ultrasonic vibrator of a hollow cylindrical shape. One end of the vibrator is connected to the ultrasonic generator, and the other end is immersed in the molten metal. Moreover, a receiving hole for the second-phase particles from the outside into the hollow part opens in the vicinity of the above one end, and a delivery hole for the second-phase particles from the hollow part into the molten metal opens at the above other end.
