Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a system and a method for transmitting packet data for linking a remote data-possessing unit with a central computer. CONSTITUTION: A data packet is sent from a remote unit(RU) 15 through an RF link to intermediate base stations(BS) 12-14 and sent from these BS through a serial link 11 to a central computer 10. The RF link uses a frequency-hopping transmission method. The RU 15 and the BS 12-14 are synchronized with the repeated pseudo-random sequence of frequency in bands (902 to 928 MHz) allowed for this type transmission. The RU 15 starts an exchange and performs reception from the BSs 12-14, only during a strict time window continued for that transmission. The BSs 12-14 cannot start communication to the RU 15 but can only send data to the RU 15 as one part of the exchange. Answers from the BSs 12-14 to the RU 15 include synchronization information for maintaining connectability with the pseudo-random sequence.
