Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To separate and recover various forms of mercury, including metal mercury, with certainty from fluorescent-material powder without requiring special equipment for wastewater treatment and further to recycle the fluorescent-material powder after treatment.
SOLUTION: A bulb 12 of a waste fluorescent lump 13 is cut and a fluorescent-material film 11 formed on the inner surface of the bulb 12 is peeled off to recover the fluorescent-material powder containing mercury. The recovered fluorescent-material powder is subjected to heating and reducing treatment by dry process to vaporize and separate the mercury from the recovered fluorescent-material powder. Then the vaporized mercury is condensed by cooling and recovered.
