Abstract:

To provide a method for estimating Global Positioning System (GPS) reference frequency drift from Voltage-Controlled Oscillator (VCO) burst of a Personal Digital Cellular (PDC) handset.

A combination product of mobile phone and NAV satellite receiver is provided with a circuit for compensating the reference frequency drift of a GPS receiver, by using VCO burst information periodically received at the PDC handset. By having the reference frequency drift of the GPS receiver compensated, stable operation of both high-speed initialization and positional solution are made available to users. A GPS numerical controlled type oscillator (NCO) receives the VCO sample of the PDC handset.
