Abstract:

To provide a motion vector estimation method for determining a search order by a distance weighting means for improving the prediction efficiency.

In the motion vector estimation method, a predetermined block contained on a first screen is referred to, a matching block with the predetermined block is searched on a second screen close to the first one timewise, and the search order is determined by the distance weighting means for estimating the motion vector of the predetermined block. Also, in the motion vector estimation method, a search base point is selected on the second screen, the matching block with the predetermined block is searched, at far positions from the search base point sequentially by the distance-weighting means, and the sequence for search is determined by the distance-weighting means for estimating the motion vector of the predetermined block. Since the motion vector is often distributed radially, thus reducing wasteful search time by the method for determining the search order by the distance weighting means.
