To provide a method of estimating rolling characteristics of a material for civil engineering works, i.e. for estimating an N-ρd line representing the relationship between a rolling frequency N and dry density ρd in order to reasonably reset a necessary rolling frequency in a simple manner even if the quality of a banking material is changed during the execution of the work.
With respect to a standard material A having a natural water content WA, a field rolling test and indoor compacting tests the with application of at least two types of work loads Ec1, Ec2, are conducted, and field rolling frequencies N1, N2 equivalent to the respective work loads Ec1, Ec2 are set. Then with respect to a material B having a civil engineered water content WB, dry densities ρd12, ρd22 of the material B after rolling at the field rolling frequencies N1, N2 are estimated based on the indoor compacting tests with the application of the work loads Ec1, Ec2. Further by using a curve 17 of rolling frequency N-dry density ρd for the material B for civil engineering having the civil engineered water content WB which is obtained under condition that the curve should pass points (N1, ρd12), (N2, ρd22), a necessary rolling frequency at the time of the execution of the work for satisfying specifications of the dry density is set.
