To provide a method of evaluating oxidative heat build-up of coal by which the degree of oxidative heat build-up of an objective coal sample can be estimated with accuracy based only on the microscopic results of the coal sample.
The correlation HR=f (R0, X) among the heat build-up indexes Hr, microscopically measured average vitrinite reflectivity R0, and microscopically measured quantities X of active component or inactive component of many kinds of coal samples is found in advance by a statistical technique by measuring the indexes Hr, reflectivity R0, and quantities X. Then the heat build-up of the objective coal sample is evaluated from the microscopically measured values of the average vitrinite reflectivity R0 and quantity X of active component or inactive component of the coal sample based on the correlation.
