To provide a method for evaluating performance of a spectacle lens, which is capable of evaluating a spectacle lens by using only refracting power data and obtaining the data as quantitative determination data.

A frequency distribution measuring instrument is used to map positional displacements of a plurality of prescribed beams due to refraction in a lens and acquires refracting power data at mapping points. Then, a local variation in one continuous region of the lens is calculated on the basis of differences in refracting power between a plurality of pieces of refracting power data included in this region. Next, it is determined whether the variation exceeds a variation allowable in the region of the lens or not, and the lens is determined to be defective if the variation exceeds the allowable variation. Since the larger variation shows that an unusual irregularity in processing occurs in the region, the lens can be properly excluded because of a magnitude of the quantitatively calculated variation.
