To provide a method for cooling/scrubbing exhaust gas from a copper smeltery, which is used at a gas purification step of cooling/scrubbing the exhaust gas from the copper smeltery and in which the mercury to be taken in a cooling/scrubbing solution can be removed during the time to carry out the gas purification step.
At the gas purification step of cooling/scrubbing the SO2-based exhaust gas from the copper smeltery in a humidification column 6, the exhaust gas from the copper smeltery is cooled/scrubbed by using the cooling/scrubbing solution 7 obtained by slurrying the white flue cinder recovered from a dust collector for the flue cinder from a converter at a step of smelting copper, mixing the slurry of the white flue cinder in the cooling/scrubbing solution 7 for cooling/scrubbing the exhaust gas from the copper smeltery and further adding the white flue cinder so that the white flue cinder concentration becomes 0.05-0.3 g/l.
