PURPOSE: To efficiently extract components from a solid particulate material such as an oil seed by mixing the material with a first extraction solvent to form a slurry, passing the slurry through an extraction zone and passing a second extraction solvent through the extraction zone countercurrently to the slurry.
CONSTITUTION: The oil-seed particles ground by a mill 12 are mixed with a polar solvent from a feed pipe 14 in a mixing zone 16, the formed slurry is sent under pressure by a pump 17 through a cyclone 18 and the top of an extraction column 22, and a nonpolar solvent is forced under pressure into the bottom 23 of the column 22 by a pump 26. The nonpolar solvent contg. the dissolved nonpolar component is recovered on the top 20 of the column 22 and then sent to a solvent recovery device 28, the seed particles accompanying the polar solvent contg. the dissolved component are discharged from the bottom 23 of the column 22 and supplied to a filter 35, and then the solid particles are separated by the use of a drier 37, etc. Further, the polar solvent contg. the dissolved component is supplied to a solvent recovery device 39.
