To provide a method for extruding shaped material which can improve the productivity by shortening idle time without causing any extrusion defect caused by applying a lubricant onto a dummy block, and to provide an extrusion apparatus.
The top end part of the dummy block 4 fixed to the top part of a stem 3 is cooled from the inner part of the dummy block 4 while extruding the shaped material 10 by inserting a billet 1 into a container 2. The dummy block 4 in which a cavity part 40 to be supplied with a cooling medium from the base end side in the extruding direction is formed is fixed to the top end part of the stem 3, and in the stem 3, a supplying flow passage 5 and a discharging flow passage 50 for cooling medium introduced to the cavity part 40 of the dummy block 4 from the outer periphery near the base end part in the extruding direction are formed.
