Abstract:

To reduce the communication quantity of SAP by announcing peripheral equipment equipped with basic functions by a server in a network.

A client 12 searches the network 14 for a specific server 10 and derives responses to all servers of specific kind by using SAP. A server 10 announces a printing function to connected peripheral equipment 16 by using SAP. The client 12 matches the name of the found server 10 against a list of the names of servers that the client 12 is looking for and generates a data list of candidate servers 10. Then It is judged whether or not the peripheral equipment 16 connected to the server 10 corresponds to, for example, some scan software application. Then the server 10 having the peripheral equipment 16 corresponding to a scanning function is determined.
