To provide a method for forming a brilliant coating film, which enables formation of a coating film expressing metallic appearance similar to that of a finished plated-metal and having a brightness with priority on design, and which is characterized in that an enhanced polychromatic property whereby different hues are expressed at a highlight part and a shade part of a coated material or a coated part under sunlight, and the above expression of polychroism is not spoilt at the coated material and the coated part in the shade.
A polychromatic clear coating film containing at least one type of pigment selected from the group consisting of a metal oxide-coated alumina flake pigment, a metal oxide-coated silica flake pigment, a metal oxide-coated glass flake pigment, a metal oxide-coated mica flake pigment, and a flaky pigment consisting of a hologram pigment and a cholesteric liquid crystal polymer is formed on a base material having a base coating film, and then a plating-tone clear film is formed.
