PURPOSE: To provide a crowning surface forming method excellent in the working efficiency and capable of obtaining a smooth crowning surface in forming the crowning surface in mechanical parts, etc.
CONSTITUTION: A surface 1a to be worked of a member 1 to be worked is flattened by a large diameter end mill M, and after the flattening of the surface 1a to be worked, a side plate part 1d and a holding part 1e of a power roller supporting member 1 are restrained by restraining dies 2, 3, and a working die 5 having the projecting curved surface which is formed taking into consideration the elastic deformation of the surface part to be worked so as to obtain the desired shape of the crowning surface is pressed in the direction of the arrow P2 from the reverse side of the surface 1a to be worked. A working die 4 having a recessed curved surface which is formed taking into consideration the elastic deformation of a surface part 1b to be worked so as to obtain the shape of the desired crowning surface is similarly pressed against the surface 1a to be worked in the direction of the arrow P1 to form the crowning surface on the surface 1a to be worked.
