PURPOSE: To inexpensively form an inclined end face reduced in its reflection by parting an optical fiber at a point along a part of the fiber while applying torque to the fiber so that one end part of the fiber is twisted from the other end part only by a prescribed twist angle.
CONSTITUTION: After rotating a collet 37 around the axial line of a fiber 31 only by an angle θ, the fiber 31 is clamped by a holding means 34 and proper tensile force is applied to a part of the fiber 31 between the holding means 32, 34. The lateral motion of the fiber 31 when a parting tool 33 is abutted upon the fiber 31 is prevented by a supporting means 35 and the tool 33 is ultrasonicly driven/heated. A nominal inclination angle is set to 3°≤≤20°. The parting method can be inexpensively executed and an inclined end face of which reflection radiation is ≤-35dB can be obtained.
