PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for forming a mold (core) using a forming pattern of foamed polystyrene as a substitute of a wooden pattern and a resin pattern.
SOLUTION: After forming the mold by embedding the polystyrene-made pattern into a normal temperature self-curing kneaded sand obtained by kneading molding sand, an organic solvent consisting essentially of phenol resin, a polyisocyanate compound and an aliphatic carboxilic acid ester and as necessary, hardening accelerator, hardening retardant and other additives, the pattern is taken out. In another embodiment, after forming the mold by filling the normal temperature self-curing kneaded sand obtained by kneading the molding sand and the organic solvent consisting essentially of the phenol resin, the polyisocyanate compound, the aliphatic carboxilic acid ester and as necessary, the hardening accelerator, hardening retardant and the other additives, into a foamed polystyrene-made forming pattern, the mold is taken out of the inner part of the forming pattern.
