To provide a method for forming a multilayered coating film to form a multilayered coating film having shock resistance, particularly chipping resistance as well as excellent appearance.
The method for forming a multilayered coating film includes a process (I) to apply an electrodeposition coating material on the objective body to be coated and to heat and harden to form an electrodeposition coating film, a process (II) to apply a water-based intermediate coating material on the electrodeposition coating film, a process (III) to apply a water-based base coating material thereon, and a process (IV) to apply a clear coating material, and a process (V) to heat and harden the coating films of the processes (II), (III), (IV) at a time to obtain a multilayered coating film. The electrodeposition coating material contains particles (A) containing a resin (a) having a solubility parameter δa and particles (B) containing a resin (b) having a solubility parameter δb and a hardening agent. The water-based intermediate coating material contains a component containing a solvent type thermosetting resin dispersed in water with a nonionic dispersant and/or cationic dispersant.
