PURPOSE: To obtain a powdery solid cosmetic having a tall steric shape, uniform solid density and high resistance to collapse, by filling powdery cosmetic in an inner mold, and compression-molding the cosmetic with a gas-permeable die, thereby completely discharging the air contained at the central part of the powdery cosmetic.

CONSTITUTION: A prescribed amount of the powdery cosmetic 35 is filled in the inner mold 31, and the upper press head 5 and the lower press head 7 are lowered by operating the upper cylinder 2. the gas-permeable die 23 attached to the lower end of the press head 7 is forced into the inner cavity 30 of the mold 29 while compressing the powdery cosmetic 35. At the same time, the lower cylinder 33 is operated to lift the inner mold 31 until the top edge of the upstand of the inner mold 31 is raised to the level of the surface of the mold 29. When the cosmetic 35 is compressed with the lowering die 23 to a prescribed hardness, the lower press head 7 is stopped, the upper press head 5 is lowered to push down the plunger-driving lever 26 resulting in the raise of the plunger 19 and the evacuation of the lower part of the plunger. Consequently, the air contained at the center of the cosmetic 35 is sucked through the ventilation port 21, the air channel 25 and the small hole 15 and discharged to the chamber 20.
