Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a method for forming a selvedge to give three-dimensional woven fabric having leno texture, exhibiting high strength and excellent shape-retainability without causing the breakage of inserted continuous yarn and the generation of yarn fluff and to provide an apparatus for forming the selvedge.
CONSTITUTION: A number of warps Y are inserted into mails 4 of the vertically movable 1st heald 1 and 2nd heald 2 each inclined by 45°, reed dents are inclined by 45° and inserted into a reed 3 movable in forward and backward direction and wefts X and vertical yarns Z are inserted along two axes perpendicular to the weft to produce woven fabric having three-dimensional structure. In the above process, rod-like yarn carriers 6 and scythe-shaped carriers 5 are inserted into the opening of warps opened according to the vertical motion of both healds. Each weft-insertion end is provided with a latch needle 8 to fix each weft by forming a knit stitch to fold the weft. The folded part of each vertical yarn forms a selvedge by the lowermost insertion yarn of each weft included in the folded part. The insertion ports of each weft and each vertical yarn form respective selvedges by folding the extreme left and the top warps formed from the interlaced part by the opening of the subsequent opening operation.
